The Good Guest

If you have been invited to a real southern party, anything from a kegger to a housewarming, there is more to being a good guest than just showing up on time. It starts before you even walk through the door & it ends with a sincere "thank-you." Knowing this is what always gets us invited back again & again.

Being a good guest starts from the minute you recieve the invite. Always RSVP. Responding to the invite, regardless of whether you can go or not, lets that person know that you value their invitation. Don't bring people with you unless the invite indicates. If you feel like you must bring someone else (your houseguests from out of town) call your hostess & ask. Do not just show up with them. That is very tacky. When invited to a house party of any kind, you should bring a bottle of wine or a potted plant.

When in doubt, follow your hostess' lead.

Always dress appropriatly, and never try to outshoine the hostess.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS send a thank you card. Mention something specific about the party & how you appreciate the time you got to spend together.

So the party is winding down & people are leaving, but you dont know when you should go. You shouldnt be the first to leave, unless you must. If you notice the hostess cleaning up, its time for you to go. You could always offer to help just for extra kindness.
